HERB FR (V1, 2010-2011)
The suspension system using a single pivot with linkage may look outdated, but we think the opposite is the case: The single pivot provides a stiff rear end because there is only one bearing set between the main frame bottom bracket area and the rear axle. Genorous dimensioning of the pivots and bearings helps to add further stiffness. The good thing about stiffness is that it helps on the descends by providing steering precision and also helps when climbing back up
We don´t want to argue with chain growth or platform systems. We claim that our HERB family bikes ride different because of their linear to progressive suspension ratio. The bike is very easy to control and responive to rider input. The suspension design allows the shock to be ridden in active setting with a minimum of platform damping and still giving you efficiency.
The frame is ISCG and Hammerschmitt compatible. It will accept 135 mm, 142 mm and 150 mm wide 12 mm through axles. Like all our supension frames all pivots have sealed stainless steel ball bearings. There are small, medium and large sizes available.
Active Suspension Design
Linkage operated shock combined with a single pivot rear triangle. Linear beginning and mid stroke kinematics with progressive end of stroke ratio.
On this frame you can install three different rear axle Systems: 135×12 mm through axle, 142×12 mm (compatible with X-12 standard wheels) and 150×12 mm through axle. To switch between the systems simply change the derailleur eye and the disc plate. 150 mm rear wheels will give the bike additional stiffness by reducing the flex of the spokes.
7000 series custom butted aluminum
The frame is designed without gussets because we use our very specially butted tubeset. This design provides a clean look and supports the frame in highly stressed regions. Wall thickness on the rear triangle is specific for left and right side to handle brake and chain pull forces.
The surface of the welded and heat threated frame is ball burnished with balls of a specific size in order that the surface of the frame material is compressed. This compression leads to compression stress in the material. The compression stress changes the load factor Kappa, which leads to longer life of the frame structure.
Full complement bearings are used on all pivots. The additional balls provide a higher load capacity (C0 and Cdyn). The higher load capacity leads to greater stiffness and durability. To protect the bearings against corrosion, we decided to use stainless steel material. All bearings are cartridge type industrial grade bearings with two seals. Whenever possible the bearings are protected by the bolt heads and additional o-rings.
