How does leasing work?

With company bike leasing, your employer leases the bike of your choice and makes it available to you for both private and work-related use. This practice is limited to German Employers. The standard term is 36 months. In most cases the arrangement is handled through salary conversion: the leasing rate is deducted from your gross salary, which lowers your income tax and social security contributions. All you pay tax on is a non-cash benefit of 0.25 % of the list price per month – for a bike costing €4,000, that comes to €10. Some employers cover the rate on top of your salary; in that case the company bike is completely tax-free for you. Good to know: salary conversion also lowers the gross figure your social security contributions are based on. This slightly reduces your future pension and sick pay entitlements, though at typical leasing rates the effect is negligible. Self-employed people and freelancers can lease as well – in their case through their business rather than through salary conversion.

When is leasing worth it?

Whether leasing pays off for you comes down to two things above all: your personal circumstances – such as your tax class, gross salary, child allowance and church tax – and how much your employer supports the scheme. It also matters which leasing partner they work with and whether they contribute to the rate, the insurance or service packages. Since the savings vary considerably from person to person, the best approach is to run the numbers for your bike in your leasing partner's calculator.

This is the ordering process

  1. Configure your dream bike: Choose the right bike model on the website and configure it to your liking.

  2. Select “Leasing” as the payment method: Add your bike to the basket, enter your contact details and select “Leasing” as the payment method during checkout.

  3. Submit your order & receive your quote: Once you have submitted your order, we check your configuration. We will then get in touch by phone or email to ask which leasing partner you use. Every leasing partner has its own process – we will go through it with you and answer any remaining questions straight away.

  4. Submit your leasing application in the portal: Log in to your leasing partner’s portal (or use the link in our email), confirm the quote and submit your leasing application digitally. In many cases you can add service or insurance packages at this point; some employers also have fixed requirements here. As soon as your employer approves the application, your leasing partner places the order with us. With this approval your order becomes binding – and production of your bike begins.

  5. Assembly & handover: Once your bike is ready, we will either deliver it straight to your home or have it waiting for collection in Dortmund. It is best to make this choice during checkout, as the delivery costs are then automatically included in the lease.

  6. Confirm handover: After receiving your bike, confirm the handover digitally in your leasing partner’s portal. If you are collecting your new bike from us, please bring your collection code with you. If your leasing partner sends the collection code by email, please make sure you can access your inbox when you come to collect.

At the end of the leasing term, usually 36 months, you can normally take over your bike from your leasing partner at a favourable residual value, return it, or lease a new bike straight away. Your leasing partner sets the exact terms.

Accessories eligible for leasing

Depending on your leasing partner, you can include accessories such as a lock in your lease. Some leasing partners even require a lock to be leased along with the bike. Others will accept proof that you already own a suitable lock.
